1) The book does not really state what the authors' primary purpose is, which is to provide teaching materials for a business class; although there is some reference to the business philosophy they espouse, there is almost zero emphasis on that. Unless the book is used as a supplement to a specific business class, I don't think it provides enough content to be useful for an introductory business class. The book could be used as a supplement to a healthcare class and this would allow the instructors to make use of this book to form a business philosophy.
I do like the book. It is a well-written text and easy to read. It is also easy to find information within the chapters and the textbook is easy to navigate. The only real complaint I have is that the book is too unfocused and the business philosophy is never stated. I was hoping that this was a textbook written to serve as a supplement to a business class instead of something like an open textbook.
2) I feel that the authors have an agenda and that this is intentional. There are several times in the book where the authors are critical of business education as well as healthcare education. While there is nothing wrong with that, they do not really acknowledge that they are being critical.
Well, I can tell you that this is a great book for a business-oriented MBA student, but I can't tell you what you're going to get out of it.
