Can I Buy A Directv Receiver On My Own

With H25 being their newest HD non DVR receiver, I highly doubt the box is owned. This is because most people prefer a free upgrade or at worst the one-time lease cost of $99, as opposed to $399 the purchase to own cost. Check with Directv, but be aware that the box is most likely still tied to somebody else's account.
Yes, AT&T's new RC1 account system will not allow any deactivated receivers to be reactivated. Ebay is known to have stolen/ still activated on another account receivers. Unknown if receivers from third party online dealers are still having problems activating them. So DTV is the only safe bet.
You cannot activate a receiver from eBay. That is not an authorized seller, but buying from an individual. Too many times receivers from there are stolen, the seller didn't realize the box must be returned to DirecTV, or attached to an account with an outstanding balance. Because of these kind of issues, AT&T no longer allows DirecTV receivers to be reactivated.
If you want to do the install yourself, then you must get the receiver from an authorized retailer. Solid Signal has been a good retailer over the years, but of course no company has a perfect track record. However you will not get the equipment free, and it still comes with a 24 month agreement upon activation. Since DirecTV accounts have been moving to a new billing account system, there have been some trouble activating boxes from the authorized retailers. Not an intention of the new account system, just some technical issue they ran into and is unknown if finally fixed or if they are still having trouble.
So unless the issue has been fixed regarding activating receivers from authorized retailers, then ordering through DirecTV is your only option. DirecTV will not drop ship a box unless it is a replacement (warranty or an upgrade that lucks out that is just a swap). There have been too many issues with those that claim to know what they are doing, mess something up and DirecTV has to go out anyway. This way they make sure install is done right and includes a 90 day coverage on the work done.
A long time ago I made the mistake of buying a receiver not knowing that it had a balance on it and it was owned by DirecTV. since that mistake from over 20 years ago I have learned my lesson. If a receiver that is owned by DirecTV goes out I have went out and purchased my own but contacted DirecTV to make sure it didn't belong to them or didn't have a balance on it. I did this a little over 6 months ago. DirecTV sent me a receiver for my bedroom but it did not record and it wouldn't show the recordings from the main DVR. After doing research I found a C51-700. I went out and found one and got it verified with DirecTV. Even verified that I would not get a two-year extension for adding a receiver that belong to me. I was very fortunate to get in touch with a person that actually enjoyed helping people. Which DirecTV / AT&t is lacking. After about 20 minutes she had me all set up and running. Everything worked perfect until the other night. I found a remanufactured one on the internet and contacted DirecTV to make sure then it could be activated. I actually had three people tell me that it could not but they would send me one free of charge overnight. Though when I ask all three of them. Would my contract be extended I was told by one that it would not be. One didn't know and had to transfer me. The other one said that yes my contract would be extended. After being on the phone today for 30 minutes and being hung up on twice after I requested to cut my service off. I want to get it in writing that you cannot use your own equipment and where is this listed in the contract. Since evidently someone did several months back. Thanks
None of the Genies are owned and that also includes the C41/51/61 mini clients so what you are paying is the up front lease fee. Replacement of defective receivers doesn't start or extend a contract and cost $20 for shipping unless you have the protection plan.
You can buy your own HD receiver. You will have to call to register the receiver. There are two types of installations MultiSwitch and SWiM. If you have MultiSwitch and get an H25, it will not work. If you have SWiM, any HD receiver will work. The dish that you will need will be based on your zip code and the cabling installation that you have.
You can certainly find an OWMED receiver, however you still have to pay the monthly fee regardless wether you own in or lease it. And yes it has to be activated with DIRECTV. The H25 HD receiver is only compatible with SWM system.
Cards are tied to the specific receiver they are originally in. You would need to contact DirecTV to get a new card or see if they can tie that card to the HD receiver. For that you would need to contact the Access Card Team Department, reachable at 888-900-7827
You would check how many cables are coming from your dish. If one single cable is coming from the dish then you have a SWiM. Or if you have a power inserter, then you have a SWiM. You can also call DIRECTV to double check. If you have an SD receiver, you more than likely have a Multiswitch installation.
Do you need to return a DIRECTV receiver If you want to know whether you need to return your DIRECTV receiver, you have to know which ones AT&T wants back. Here is a list of the DIRECTV receivers that must be returned when you cancel or upgrade your account:
If you are a regular, home-based customer, the receivers and DVRs you get from Solid Signal are leased. The money you pay is a one-time lease fee. There are basically no owned receivers for home use, period.
Moving to a lease model actually benefits most customers. The company can take depreciation on the receivers making it easier to justify offering them at low cost. (Owned receivers, when you could get them, used to cost three times as much.) It also allows the satellite company to offer quick replacements and upgrades for low cost.
The cheapest, simplest option is a tripod-mounted dish. You use it along with the DIRECTV receiver. The tripod can be mounted on the roof or placed on the ground. The dish is manually aligned to the satellite at each stop.
My question is: If I connect a directv receiver to the internet outside of the US will the box be shut down I currently have my box with me in the Bahamas and would love to access my On Demand features that I have at home.
I have tried putting these numbers in there on a HR24 and did not work. I also tried putting these numbers in my dlink, and it shut my internet down completely.I have a legitimate out of country receiver and direct themselves basically said I am on my own. and apparently you are on your own here too I have asked for help and I am getting no replies.
Hi Marcus. Seeting up DNS on DVR Satellite receivers can be tricky. The receiver itself might use other technologies to determine your location. However, changing DNS on a DLink router should not shut down your Internet completely unless your ISP blocks using DNS servers other than its own.
DIRECTV offers a pretty generous 200 hours of storage. That's over 500 GB of content, watchable on up to five screens at once. (You can record up to five programs simultaneously too.) Even better, unlike some competitors, DIRECTV doesn't charge for their Genie DVR. Just keep in mind that if you want to watch the content you record on multiple TVs, you'll need a receiver for each extra TV. Those receivers run $7 per month.
Your satellite subscription comes with an HD DVR, but that device only covers one TV. So, if your DVR is in the TV room and you want to watch in the bedroom, you'll need a second receiver in the bedroom. Those will run you $7 per month.
DirecTV is a great option for home entertainment. But is it a reasonable option for mobile entertainment in an RV If you are a current DirecTV account holder, it is natural to ask: can I use my home DirecTV receiver in my RV
While it is certainly possible to use your home DirecTV receiver in your RV, it is not practical. Not only will you have to physically relocate your antenna and the location of the DirecTV satellites when you want to use it in your RV, but you will also have to make changes to your account information if you want to receive service wherever you travel in your RV.
To get TV in your recreational vehicle, you will need to connect your DirecTV receiver. For those of you that are already subscribed to DirecTV service, you can move the receiver from your home into your RV before you leave for a trip.
One of the downsides of the DirecTV receivers is their size and bulky nature. This makes them risky to permanently install it on the roof of your RV and it takes setting the receiver up inside your RV out of the question completely.
Again, DISH offers the satellite and the receiver in a packaged bundle. The HD receiver that you use with DISH portable satellites is called the Wally. And, of course, even after you purchase the bundle, you will still need a channel package plan. You have two options for channel packages:
The Wally HD receiver does come with a remote control. It does not come with DVR, although DVR extenders are available for purchase as add-ons if that is something you are interested in.
As I have stated throughout the article, my recommendation for tailgate satellite setup is the DISH Playmaker kit, which comes with an HD receiver and allows you access to DISH Networks pay-as-you-go programming package to avoid a long-term contract.
But when comparing DISH vs DIRECTV for tailgating, it obviously matters whether or not you already have a subscription to one of these two providers. If you are already a DIRECTV subscriber, it may be worth the little bit extra of hassle to buy one of their eligible antennas and use the receiver from your house (again, verify your current receiver is eligible to be used with the antenna you choose).
When installing a DirecTV satellite dish it is important to first have all the major parts necessary to install it and connect it to the TV set. These parts include the DirecTV satellite dish, any hardware necessary to install the dish, special cable, telephone line cable, DirecTV satellite dish receiver, and a TV set. 59ce067264
